Cam Newton, quarterback for the Carolina Panthers, and his longtime girlfriend Kia Proctor, welcomed their baby boy into the world on January 30.

On Thursday, Newton surprised his fans when he announced what many will no doubt deem a very unusual name for said baby.

ESPN reporter David Newton helped Cam Newton with his big reveal, by posting an announcement on Twitter with Newton wearing his son's name on his practice jersey.

Yes, you read that correctly. Cam Newton and Kia Proctor named their baby boy Chosen Sebastian Newton.

In a world of children named Zuma (Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale) and Rocket (Sam Worthington and Laura Bingle), Chosen isn't all that bad. At least the child will grow up knowing he was very much wanted and--well, chosen.

David Newton went on, via Twitter, to explain the reason behind Cam Newton and Kia Proctor's choice.

"I wanted something that would be masculine and unique," Cam Newton said. He added he doesn't like the idea of naming babies "Junior."

What's your take on Cam Newton and Kia Proctor's choice of Chosen Sebastian Newton for their baby boy? He always has Sebastian to fall back on as an adult.

And yes, there have been far worse names.
