BNA Selects Exegenix for Harmonizing Diverse Content

    November 16, 2004

BNA has selected Exegenix conversion technology to streamline the process of harmonizing diverse content for publishing.

BNA is the foremost publisher of print and electronic news, analysis, and reference products, providing intensive coverage of legal and regulatory developments for professionals in business and government. Decision-makers in many fields turn to BNA for detailed, up-to-the-minute news and information on the ever-shifting landscape of laws and regulations that influence business decisions.

BNA often needs to convert government documents and material from outside authors, received in a variety of proprietary formats, for republication in its electronic products. As a long-time supporter of the SGML and XML standards, on which their publishing and product-making is based, BNA must rapidly convert such documents to tagged and validated ASCII format — SGML/XML.

Always in search of technological advances to streamline the conversion of source material into XML, BNA has selected the award-winning Exegenix Conversion Satellite to address this issue for several divisions and products. Halcyon Ahearn, BNA Systems Analyst, explains: “We were using several inadequate methods inside different business units. We were using conversion scripts and proprietary tools — never mind manual retagging. Our methods for converting documents from PDF were particularly prone to problems and required lots of extra work, lots of human intervention. We are excited at the potential of the Exegenix Conversion Satellite and are very impressed by the service we’ve received. We have deployed several client stations, which provide a unified XML conversion platform, and are in the process of setting up more. This is proving to be a very useful tool for us.”

Agrees Steve Downie, VP Sales & Marketing at Exegenix: “The Satellite is a natural fit for BNA — a content-heavy organization with varying conversion load demands. In addition, the flexibility of our output DTD enables a seamless transformation to BNA’s various target DTDs.”
