"Information on the Internet is exploding," said Naam. There are about 1 trillion urls across the web.

Search is the second most used application on the Web following email. "Satisfaction in search could improve," said Naam. Only 1 in 4 queries delivers successful results.

"We believe search doesn’t anticipate user intent. Sixty-six percent of people use search engines more frequently to make decisions," he said. Decision sessions are lengthy.

Opportunities for innovation:
Users are dissatisfied
Users want help searching
Increasing focus on tasks and decisions

Bing is working to cut down on time and simplifying tasks.

Organizing results page:
They have a ‘table of contents’ area to left of results
If searching for car: they have reviews, pricing information, etc.
They are trying to anticipate what users are looking for

Key themes:
Deliver great results
A richer, more organized experience
Helps you accomplish key tasks more easily

Nathan Buggia, Senior Program Manager Lead, Webmaster Center, Live Search, said the goals of Bing is a better understanding of user intent and making searchers more successful in making decisions.

The best match feature brings up deep links and a website can appear as each type of "best match" or a normal result depending on the query.

My guess is that it is just another Google Clone.

But when it comes to Microsoft you never know…

Microsoft has made some surprising improvements with Bing!

I guess Microsoft is finally focusing on search rather than its product line, I like Bing, I do expect a few more changes to it, cleaner look but overal, very useful, I hope they come up with webmasters tools since the ones from live.com are not very good. I just tired of paid rank and ad based results from google. I wonder where Yahoo is going now.

It’s already mind boggling for ‘newbie’ webmaster to do the catchup with SEO, SERP and stuffs like that with Google and Yahoo…….And now Bing. Just wondering if it will create another uphill task for page ranking?

I hope this time Microsoft can work out something eye-opening, Live search totally sucks. Google is good, but I don’t like to see it will dominate the whole world.
