  • It’s been a week of surprises for Beyonce’s fans, as last Friday she turned the music world on its ear by releasing her fifth self-titled album with no warning, and just seven days later she surprised more fans by showing up at a Walmart in Tewksbury, Mass. unannounced.

The R&B superstar was at the store to do a little last minute Christmas shopping for her daughter Blu Ivy and to purchase a physical copy of her brand new album.

And did Beyonce simply pick up her album, buy a gift or two and then leave? Not at all, as the 32-year old singer also took the time to handout $50 gift cards for everyone in the store.

“Hello Walmart shoppers, it’s Beyonce,” she said on the store’s intercom system. “For everyone in the store right now the first $50 of your holiday gifts are on me,” which of course was to the delight of the holiday shoppers, as they screamed and cheered in complete joy. In total, the “Crazy in Love” singer handed out 750 gift cards, easily brightening the faces of 750 Walmart shoppers.

From there, Beyonce made her way up and down the aisles, stopping to buy a doll for her 23-month year old daughter and also stopping to hug one of her younger fans, a toddler named Ariana.

“Hi beautiful, do you want to give me a hug,” said the former Destiny’s Child member, as she picked up Ariana and gave her a big squeeze, which probably made every guy in the place a little envious. “Oh my goodness, what a sweetie pie you are,” she continued.”

It’s possible the Walmart visit was Beyonce’s way of sticking it to Target, as a spokeswoman announced it would not be carrying her album since it was already released digitally.

“At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections,” said Erica Julkowski, a Target spokeswoman. “At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyonce’s new self-titles album ‘Beyonce.’ ”

However, that didn’t stop the singer’s Christmas cheer or her desire to give, as she doled out a whopping $37,500 worth of gift cards to shoppers, which more than likely made everyone’s holiday season just a little more eventful and exciting.
