Benedict Cumberbatch is engaged, but there seems to be a bit of confusion about his fiancee. You see, Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner was identified online as the future Mrs. Cumberbatch, but that definitely isn’t the case.

Turner received a wealth of congratulatory messages via social media when word of her marrying Benedict Cumberbatch emerged. How must Sophie Hunter–his real fiancee–feel about the confusion? Just imagine the deflation one must feel when getting engaged–only to have an actress from a hit TV series mistaken for the betrothed. It must be a bit of a let down, and very discouraging for Cumberbatch’s real fiancee.

The Game of Thrones star took to Twitter to try to clear things up.

Benedict Cumberbatch took out a paid section in The Times to announce the engagement. His rep confirmed news of the engagement while speaking to The Telegraph.

“I am delighted to confirm this morning’s announcement that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are engaged,” he said.

It was only about five months ago when fans realized Cumberbatch and Hunter were a couple. It’s uncertain how long the pair was officially dating prior to that. They were spotted at the French Open and confirmed their relationship at that point in time. Now, just a few months later, they are engaged to be married. No date has yet been announced for their wedding.

Benedict Cumberbatch is best known for his roles in Star Trek Into Darkness, 12 Years A Slave, and The Hobbit series of films.

Hopefully everyone understands now that Benedict Cumberbatch is marrying Sophie Hunter, and not Sophie Turner from Game of Thrones. His real fiancee–and her family–will likely appreciate all rumors on the matter being put to rest.
