Bebo Teams With Universal Music For Online Drama

    June 9, 2008

Social networking site Bebo has partnered with Universal Music for an online drama set in the record labels London headquarters.

The series called "The Secret World of Sam King" will be made by Universal Music subsidiary Globe Productions, and independent production company Monkey Kingdom. The series revolves around an employee at Universal Music who secretly founds his own start-up label in the mailroom.

The producers of the Bebo show will draw on real life experiences and use cameos of real life Universal artists to bring authenticity to the storyline. Bebo users will be able to participate in the show as well as the fictional music label.

Sony Ericsson will be sponsoring the show for the first three months and will have its brand integrated into storylines.

The show will be available on Bebo and will also be distributed across a number of online channels of the site’s new parent AOL to increase reach.

"The show is a compelling, quality drama that will mix a brilliant narrative with cameos from some of our major recording artists," said Universal Music UK’s Chairman & CEO David Joseph.

Bebo has 42 million users globally with members spending 2.1 billion minutes on the site per month, according to comScore.

A launch date for the series has yet to be determined.
