Microsoft plans on making six hours of content available from New York’s Times Square and covering various musical performances during the celebration.

MSN Video plans to make its coverage available starting online at 7 PM ET on December 31st. Microsoft has sewn this up as an exclusive offering and will have 26 cameras on hand to pick up the events, the company said in a statement.

Currently, the New Year’s site displays a variety of 2005 news and entertainment events along with some details of the 2006 celebration. Three personalities – D.J. Romeo from New York’s Z100, comedian Angela LaGreca and TV host Brandi Williams – have been slated to handle hosting duties for MSN.

Music looks like it will be a big focus for the webcast. Little Steven and ESPN’s Stuart “Boo-Yah” Scott have been advertised as hosting Underground Garage from the Hard Rock Caf. Microsoft lists the New York Dolls among several bands slated to appear; the Dolls predate even Microsoft’s creation, making those in the WebProNews offices wonder if Steve Ballmer or Bill Gates were ever into glam rock.

This will be MSN’s second straight year on Times Square. MSN’s Rob Bennett said in the statement site visitors will be able to select from different camera angles and events when they check out the celebration, making it a more interactive experience.
