The trend among some top bloggers is to publish monthly earning reports showing how much income they have generated the previous month. While it may seem impressive to earn $1,000, $5,000 or even $35,000 a month from your blogging efforts, I feel that the raw number can be a crude way of judging the “success” of your blog and will not be as meaningful as using other metrics.
Facebook has recently revamped the layout of its user profiles, introducing a ‘tabbed’ interface to navigate through your own or your friends profiles: The advantage of a tabbed interface is that you’ll gain more screen real estate and your content should be categorized more efficiently. Although having used the original single page layout, I prefer the old format:
Till now, the Facebook social network has been an overall pleasant user experience for most users, especially if they’ve come over from the social spamming barrage common on MySpace.
Yahoo! MyBlogLog has included a couple of updates since the last time I took a close look at the service. For one, sorting through “followers” and considering reciprocal “friend adding” is easier because you can filter through the list of friends in a pretty speedy fashion (especially if you have a hundred or more pending followers).
Google search engine ranking team Google Fellow Amit Singhal published a blog post “Introduction to Google Ranking” at the official Google blog. While not going into the specific nuts-and-bolts factors influencing SERPs (or search engine results pages), Amit outlined a number of broad principles to keep in mind when optimizing your web pages.
I’m getting snowed under, even with following 92 twitterers, possibly because I live 12 hours in the future (GMT+8 vs GMT-5 for most Americans), and there’re pages of back tweets when I wake up every morning and check out my twitter account.
Perhaps it’s a sign of growing pains (good pains!), but a number of twitterers (i guess it’s a nicer term than “twits”) have mentioned that twits are not appearing in their twitter stream…which could be a concern for some, especially as twitters @ other users and direct messages are fast replacing email and IM for a number of the users. I was a little surprised that some conversations seemed to be ending mid stream, till I went to the individual twitter stream (typically twitter.com/(username) ) and saw the continuation of our conversation there.
Note to self: Do not keep the bulk of tax filing till the last month before taxes are due. In the midst of shuffling paper around for hours and hours in my office (a real joy), I’ve been listening to episodes of Geekcast.
I like multi-tasking, although the latest Guru-Du-Jour Eben Pagan says it’s a “no-no” So having eaten my lunch while MythBusters was playing on Discovery, I finally opened up the box containing my new MacBook 2.1 Ghz machine (a freebie bundled together with my new 10mbps DSL plan).
Or should that be “Words”? However, you cut it and define it, there’re marketers out there who do their best to make use of Twitter, Squidoo, Hubpages, MySpace, Facebook, Tumblr, Flickr, Metacafe, Youtube, Revver, forums and other social networking site (of the “Web 2.0″ ilk) to generate adsense or affiliate income.
