Coupon marketing company Valassis said today it has formed a partnership with AOL to create “one of the largest paperless digital coupon footprints in the United States, including over 7,500 grocery retail stores.”

AOL said today it is launching late night video programming featuring highlights from the podcasts of “The Adam Carolla Show,” “Kevin Pollack’s Chat Show,” and Kevin Smith’s SModcast Network.

JetBlue Launches Facebook Deal App

JetBlue Airways has introduced a new app on Facebook called “Go Places” that rewards people with TrueBlue points and discounts so they can earn free trips.

Users will be able to collect points and deals starting today through March1, 2011. Jet Blue says this is the first of a series of promotions it has planned for 2011 on Facebook Places.

YouTube is inviting users to submit questions to President Obama for an exclusive interview that will take place two days after the 2011 State of the Union Address.

AAA Launches Android App

AAA has introduced a mobile app for Android that allows its members to request roadside assistance.

The free Android app allows AAA members to request roadside assistance without having to place a call. The app uses the phone’s GPS to send the location of the user to AAA Roadside Assistance.

 

HP Launches Live Streaming Comedy Show On YouTube

HP has launched a live streaming comedy show on YouTube that is hosted by comedian Rob Riggle and will feature actors from the Upright Citizens Brigade.

The video series called HP ePrint Live calls on people to send in ideas for comedic skits.

Mobile Email Usage Sees Significant Growth

In November 2010, the number of U.S. visitors to web-based email sites decreased 6 percent compared to the previous year, while email engagement declined at a greater rate, according to a new report from comScore.

During the same time period, the number of users accessing email via their mobile devices grew by 36 percent.

Sony Music Entertainment said today it is working to develop mobile entertainment apps for its artists and labels using technology from Mobile Roadie, a platform for creating and managing mobile apps.

Sony Music will create customized apps for its artists and offer users access to news, streaming music and videos, photo galleries, tour schedules, ticketing options, and chat.

T-Mobile Launches Android App To Prevent Texting While Driving

T-Mobile has released an Android app called DriveSmart Plus aimed at preventing texting while driving.

DriveSmart Plus, powered by Location Labs, is is a subscription-based, opt-in service that automatically detects when a handset user is driving and sets the phone into a ‘Driving Mode’.  Once this service is activated, it disables most texting and calling features to the handset while the car is in motion.

Starbucks Launches Mobile Payments In All U.S. Stores

Starbucks has introduced mobile payments in all of its U.S. stores, allowing people to pay for purchases with select smartphones.

The new mobile payment program now includes 6,800 company-operated stores and more than 1,000 Starbucks in U.S. Target locations.

Google said today it is holding its fourth annual Doodle 4 Google contest, which is open to K-12 students in the U.S. for a chance to design the company’s homepage.

 Participants in this years Doodle 4 Google contest will have a chance to win a $15,000 scholarship and a $25,000 technology grant for their school.

U.S. Paid Search Rebounded In 2010

U.S. paid search made solid gains in 2010 with 18.5 percent growth year-over-year, according to a new report from SearchIgnite.

The fourth quarter (Q4) showed strong growth, increasing 35.5 percent YoY with December leading the quarter at 44.8 percent YoY growth. The Q4 holiday season indicated improved consumer sentiment, with the average order value (AOV) up 31.3 percent YoY compared to a 13 percent decrease in 2009.

The majority (80%) of American Internet users participate in groups, compared with 56 percent of non-Internet users, according to a new report from the Pew Internet & American Life Project.

Social media users are even more likely to be active: 82% of social network users and 85% of Twitter users are group participants.

Williams-Sonoma was named as the best online retailer during the 2010 holiday season, with an availability of 99.98 percent and an average response time of 11.58 seconds, according to a new report from web performance monitoring company AlertSite.

 Sam’s Club and QVC tied for second place, with 99.95 percent availability and a 13.46 second average response time.

Travelocity Making Its Website More Accessible To Blind Users

The National Federation of the Blind, an advocate for Internet access for blind Americans, announced an agreement with Travelocity to make its website more accessible to the blind.

Under the agreement, Travelocity Under today’s agreement, Travelocity will make accessible by July 1, 2011, its home page and each initial Web page used for searching flights, hotels,  and vacation packages .

Princess Cruises Launches Facebook Contest

Princess Cruises has launched a Facebook contest inviting people to share their favorite travel experience for a chance to “check another place off their travel bucket list.”

The contest winner will be selected by popular vote, and will be able to choose from one of eight cruise destinations including Europe, Asia, Tahiti, Australia/New Zealand, the Holy Land, Panama Canal, Alaska or South America.

The cruise vacation choices range from 10 to 16 days in length in a balcony stateroom, and include round trip airfare for two people.

Google Marking Martin Luther King Jr. Day With Community Service

Google said today that many of its employees will be marking the 25th anniversary of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, January 25th by participating in service projects.

Wikipedia Marks Tenth Anniversary

To mark the 10th anniversary of Wikipedia that takes place Saturday, the Pew Internet & American Life Project has released data about who uses the site and how its audience has grown over the years.

The percentage of all American adults who use Wikipedia to look for information has increased from 25% in February 2007 to 42% in May 2010. This translates to 53% of adult internet users.

Mobile App Offers Tax Filing For iPhone And Android

TurboTax has introduced SnapTax, a mobile app that lets people file their taxes from their iPhone or Android devices.

SnapTax allows users with simple returns to take a photo of their W-2 with their mobile phones and then automatically enters the information into their tax return.  Users answer a few basic questions, review their their return for accuracy and tap “File Now” to electronically file their federal and state tax returns.
