Ariel Winter underwent breast reduction surgery back on June 4. The Modern Family star dishes about the reason behind the surgery and the results in an interview with Glamour.com.

The 17-year-old actress experienced a sudden and overwhelming breast development at the age of 15 that left her carrying around size 32F breasts. The pain that accompanies breasts that large can be excruciating.

"It really did happen overnight," Ariel Winter says of her unexpected breast growth. "I remember being in my sister's wedding and being so flat and thinking, 'I just wish I could grow boobs!' And then overnight I did. But then they kept growing and growing and growing, and it didn't seem like they were going to stop."

The emotional pain of such sudden and large breast development was difficult for the teen. Not only did she have these sudden bodily changes, but she had to endure them while almost constantly in the public eye.

"I was 15 years old with [size] F [breasts]," Winter says. "How do you navigate that?"

Ariel Winter was dismayed by the way people concentrated on the size of her breasts rather than on her talent as an actress.

"It made me feel really uncomfortable, because as women in the industry, we are totally oversexualized and treated like objects," she says. "Every article that has to do with me on a red carpet had to do with 'Ariel Winter's Crazy Cleavage!' or 'Ariel Winter Shows Huge Boobs at an Event!' That's all people would recognize me by – not, 'Oh, she does great work on Modern Family.'"

Ariel Winter only told a few close friends and family members that she was undergoing breast reduction surgery. Now she has decided to share her story with all who are interested.

"I didn't want to not tell anybody and then have another million stories [say], 'What happened to Ariel? She looks so different.' And I also think there's some good that can come from [telling] my story. It's something that I did to better my life and better my health, and I think that can benefit a lot of young girls. I have felt happier with myself than I ever have."

Ariel Winter's Modern Family co-stars Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara have been especially supportive.

"I told [only] Julie Bowen because I had talked to her before about my desire to have the surgery. She was really supportive and understanding. I just saw Sofia the other day, and she was like, 'Oh my God! I love them! They're great!'"

Ariel Winter will make her first public appearance since her breast reduction surgery in September at the Emmy Awards. She is very excited about the upcoming event.

"I'm just excited to try on all the dresses!" she says. "Now I can wear all styles of dresses and all styles of things," she says. "I don't always have to pick the tightest, most formfitting dress I can find. I can pick something else and still feel good about myself. I couldn't do that before. I'm excited to finally actually feel confident and not just appear confident."

Kudos to Ariel Winter--not only for her breast reduction surgery, but for sharing it so others considering such a life change can learn from her experience.
