You may be wondering who was that fresh-faced singer who skittered onto the stage in the sparkling long dress to accept the Best New Artist award tonight at the American Music Awards. The answer is Ariana Grande, a 20-year-old with a voice far bigger than her 5'0 stature.
During her acceptance speech (that she pulled out of her bra), she valiantly attempted to thank everyone that she could in 10 seconds, and Nickelodeon was one of those named. You may remember her as Cat Valentine in the network's show Victorious that centered around a performing arts school. The show released several soundtracks and music videos performed by the Victorious cast, and performances often found their way into an episode.
Tonight, however, Grande made a giant impression at the AMAs with a performance that included an acappella rendition of her song The Wayand closed with a Motown rendition of Tattooed Heart that brought even Lady Gaga to her feet.
There will be more opportunities to see Ariana Grande in the upcoming months; she will be touring for the remainder of this year.
