For the first time ever, Apple is putting on one of its iTunes music festivals in America.
The company announced that it will be a five-night venture, set to kick off March 11th at SXSW. The shows will be free, and will take place at the Moody Theater–home to the famous Austin City Limits.
“The iTunes Festival in London has become an incredible way for Apple to share its love of music with our customers,” said Apple's Eddy Cue. “We're excited about the incredible lineup of artists performing and SXSW is the perfect place to debut the first iTunes Festival in the US.”
So, who are those incredible artists? So far Apple has announced Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Pitbull, Keith Urban, and ZEDD. More acts will be announced as we near SXSW.
The first iTunes music festival was held in 2007. The show has always been held in London–first at the Institute of Contemporary Arts and then the KOKO venue in 2008. Since then, it's been held in The Roundhouse. The London festivals have all taken place for a month, with each act performing on separate days. Last year's iTunes Festival in London drew acts like Lady Gaga, Phoenix, Elton John, Vampire Weekend, Pixies, Katy Perry, and Justin Timberlake.
Apple says that the 400 performers over the years have reached 430,000 fans in-person and "tens of millions" online. You'll be able to stream the concerts this year with Apple TV, and via iTunes.
