Video and other entertainment on demand for Intel Viiv-based PCs emerged as a new digital entertainment service partnership from CES 2006.

AOL and Intel disclosed the forthcoming entertainment on demand arrangement during Intel CEO/president Paul Otellini’s keynote address in Las Vegas. AOL’s new video service, using the Hi-Q video format, joins the company’s digital options for music, radio, and pictures later this year.

For Intel, the partnership adds value to its Viiv technology. The company wants to find demand for PCs using its chipsets beyond the cutthroat personal computing market. By positioning its technology for home entertainment, Intel may get more of its newer creations into shopping baskets.

Viiv gives consumers various usage options for home entertainment. Content can be viewed on a television or shifted to laptops or handhelds. Intel also touted the high-definition video and surround-sound audio support Viiv offers.

AOL also announced its Digital Lifestyles hub. The site promotes Intel’s Viiv technology and demonstrates the various entertainment options available from AOL.

Intel plans on complementing that promotional effort with sponsorships of AOL’s Network Live and the In2TV classic television service. A big advertising push has Intel promoting Viiv on the AOL homepage and throughout various related AOL properties online.
