Amazon Appstore Makes the Move to Japan
[ Technology]

Today, Amazon has opened up its Appstore to another country. Marking its first expansion into Asia, Amazon has launched the Appstore in Japan.

Like any location, the Amazon Appstore in Japan will feature localized content and a localized mobile store, as well as Amazon’s “free app of the day.” Any and all apps purchased from the Appstore can be used across Android devices (Amazon hopes you chose a Kindle Fire device, of course).

It’s the same Appstore Amazon users are familiar with in six other countries: The U.S., UK, Germany, Spain, France, and Italy.

“The Amazon Appstore connects app and game developers across the globe with Amazon’s enormous customer base, and we’re excited to expand that audience to our millions of customers in Japan,” said Jim Adkins, Vice President of the Amazon Appstore. “Now our customers in Japan can find all of the apps and games they’re looking for and can take advantage of popular programs like Free App of the Day.”

Amazon recently made the Kindle Paperwhite available in Japan, bringing the Kindle Store tot he country back in October. The Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD are also available, and orders of the latter will start shipping on December 19th. It makes sense that Amazon would want the Appstore to be up and running in the country just as customers start receiving their shiny new tablets.
