  • Alison Sweeney started working on the daytime soap opera Days of Our Lives when she was just 16-years-old. Fast-forward 21 years and Sweeney is still portraying Sami Brady. However, now there is an end point. The 37-year-old actress is finally saying goodbye to Salem. Sweeney announced on the Ellen Degeneres Show on Tuesday that she plans to leave the long-running NBC soap next year.

Sweeney appreciates the fans and confesses to loving her job as a soap actress, but she’s ready to move on. In addition to her Days gig, the blonde-actress also hosted the reality competition show The Biggest Loser for the past seven years. And what does she plan on doing with her time? She told Degeneres, “I’m really just excited to be with my kids and be with my husband and … have fun. And I write, my second book’s coming out and I love directing.”

There’s no word on what the writers have in store for Sami Brady who has connived, lied and manipulated her way in and out of trouble for the past two decades. Maybe Sami will finally find true love? Maybe she will ultimately see the error of her ways? Either way, one of daytime’s most hated/beloved characters will be missed by the show’s fans.

Sweeney personally doesn’t know what will become of Sami Brady, but she knows the character certainly won’t have a fairy tale ending, “It would be awesome to have some kind of happy ending but then, I also think Sami probably deserves some sort of very twisted like ‘Breaking Bad’ ending. She’s caused a lot of people a lot of problems.” Sweeney added, “The writers have amazing imaginations and Sami has certainly caused her fair share of drama over the last 21 years. It will be 22, and I don’t even know what happens next. I’m so, like, flustered.”
