  • Aisha Tyler will be the newest member of Behavior Analysis Unit on Criminal Minds for season 11.

Criminal Minds is losing both Jennifer Love Hewitt permanently and A.J. Cook for maternity leave and needed Aisha Tyler to fill those gaps.

Aisha Tyler, also a star of Archer and co-host of The Talk, will be portraying Dr. Tara Lewis. Dr. Lewis is described as a psychologist with an intense interest in forensic psychology and its use in the criminal justice system.

Aisha Tyler’s new role is explained in this way: “Her dream was to study psychopaths up close and personal – and her psychology background, combined with her experience in the FBI, brought her face-to-face with monsters. Her job was to stare them down and interview them, in order to determine if they were fit to stand trial. In the process, she made herself find the humanity inside these broken men (and, sometimes, women) in order to learn if there was a conscience behind their brutal crimes.”

Sounds like an interesting role for Aisha Tyler to play!

While Aisha Tyler is helping fill a gap left by Jennifer Love Hewitt, that doesn’t mean that Hewitt will never return.

Back in May, showrunner Erica Messer said, when asked if Hewitt could ever return in any capacity, “Yeah, we left it open creatively. Hotch says, ‘You always have a place here,’ and we believe that wholeheartedly off-screen as well. It was a great season and we had a lot of fun with her. One of the great things about our show is you can leave those doors open.”

She added, “We rarely kill anyone. That opportunity for paths to cross again is definitely open. Everybody is on board with that. Of course, no one has a crystal ball, so it’s hard to predict two years from now what’s going on—or a year from now. But it’s something we’d definitely creatively keep open.”
