The AdSense and AdWords programs will have even greater interest once Google starts placing ads in its Talk client.

Ads already feature prominently in instant messaging clients from AOL, MSN, and Yahoo. A MediaPost article says Google won’t want for lack of advertisers once it begins making ads available on the Talk IM and voice client, either.

United Online, one of the biggest monthly spenders on online advertising, sees ads for its Classmates.com service regularly appearing on the AIM client from AOL. AOL has around 22 million AIM users, and Yahoo and MSN also number in the millions.

Google will need that kind of adoption to garner advertiser interest, and should have no problem getting there. The Mountain View company has become known as much for the innovative products it creates as for its signature search engine. Google has went from a name to a commonly-used term when telling someone to find more information on a subject by Googling for it.

Conversational familiarity doesn’t come to many brands; Coke is known throughout the world, but no one says they’re going to “get something to Coke” because they’re thirsty. When Google Talk starts reaching those usage numbers, advertisers and media buyers will be drinking it in.
