A 20-year old woman in Papua New Guinea was burned alive this week after being accused of killing a neighbor boy with witchcraft.

Kepari Leniata was reportedly dragged from her home, stripped nude, and tortured with hot iron rods before being bound, doused with gasoline, and set on fire. The horrifying incident came after a six-year old boy complained of pains in his stomach before dying suddenly, and members of his family were suspicious that “sorcery” was involved. They confronted Leniata, who admitted to practicing the craft but said she had nothing to do with the boy’s death. Her protests went unheard, however, and she was burned alive in a trash heap beneath some tires. It’s been reported that local police responded but were kept away by the large crowd that gathered, and at least one source names Leniata’s own husband as a prime suspect in the killing, though it’s unclear what role he played.

Apparently, accusations of this sort are common in the area, and the bishop of a local church spoke out about them after Leniata’s death.

“Sorcery and sorcery-related killings are growing and the government needs to come up with a law to stop such practice,” David Piso said. “Many innocent and helpless people have been killed and tortured after being accused of witchcraft, but taking a life is against the teachings of the Bible and the laws of the country.”

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said he is working to crack down on these types of killings as he is faced with mounting pressure to reduce violence against women, as well as set harsher punishments for offenders.

Clearly this planet is still living in the dark ages in many areas of the world. Absolutely without any education, fearful of the power of the supernatural, and willing to torture a human being to death, a woman of course. We are not as advanced as we think we are.

wow what happened to the primitive people in new guine did they read the bible where it says dont allow a witch to live? or the part that says god loves the smell of buring flesh??

    • stpetejohnny

I wonder if they will really find out what happened to the boy….
And then they should be all tried for murder!

    • stpetejohnny

      Just couldn’t resist could you….

witchcraft, voodoo, occult practices are standard among “assimilated” culture and I have never read about the practitioners being being murdered because of the practice…unless there is a indoctrinating roman catholic institution to brainwash the natives and instigate them to commit the crime of murder…they are good at that; they almost exterminated my people, the Mayas. However, let me say that in civilized societies, even in Boulder, Colorado, there are Schools for Witches and no body is burning them down.

In this day and age shows how primitive some parts of the world still are.. breaks my heart for the woman who was burned alive ..I had neighbors who did practice Voodoo .. they seemed normal enough ..

Oh, yes, blame the big bad Roman Catholic “indoctrinating” Church, because all the people of the world were just perfect, loving, and without any ill will until the Pope and his evil fanatical band started filling their minds with hatred and superstition. No culture ever practiced human sacrifice, cannibalism, infanticide–no one was ever treated unjustly or innocently murdered–until those wicked Catholics started converting everyone to their terrible doctrines. Give me a break!

When will people stop being so afraid and stop torturing each other out of fear and ignrance?

    • http://Yahoo Makenzi

Erin: There isn’t an answer to the whole “when will people stop being such jerks”.. They won’t. They’be gotta’ have somebody to pin the blame on. They’re idiots.

This is exactly what it should been done to rapists; specially the ones that rape innocent little girls!!

    • Linda

      TOTALLY AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Justin

They could have at least weighed her to see if she weighed the same as a duck. As we all know witches are made of wood. Something that is made of wood and floats in water. It can be confirmed they are a witch by seeing if the “witch” weighs the same as a duck, which also floats in water. Since witches are made of wood, which floats on water, the witch would have to float like a duck. Therefore they would weigh the same, making her a witch

      Hahaha very nice win. (:

i totally agree with you. So true! Can’t put blame if their isn’t any proof to back it up. What jerks.

  • Kaye

Just imagine if witches could actually do what they are accused of by stupid people…. maybe there’d be less stupid people! So sad for that young woman!

  • http://Yahoo Makenzi

I think people ar emorons. What heartless people could do such a stupid thing, to somebody they didn’t even know. They knew she did witchcraft. How does that make her at fault for that little boys death?.. R.I.P young lady <3

  • Kim George

If I could turn back the clock, I would definitely blow ur shit brains out of your fucking heads ! these morons still think medieval !

  • gumichan

I think this story is just horrific. Things like this happen all the time, all over the world. We should learn to treat everyone fairly and respect one another for our beliefs – then this kind of thing could be avoided. I hope she and the little boy rest in peace~<3

Come on New Guinnea, burning people alive is sicker than sick. You all need to be protected from each other!!! White coats with arm ties!
