  • James Bond is turning 50 this year – well, at least the film franchise. Dr. No hit theaters in 1962, and the world was introduced to the screen version of the legendary hero (as well as Ursula Andress in a bikini). In celebration of that defining moment in cinema, Activision is announcing that the new James Bond game is going to incorporate a lot of history.

007 Legends will apparently tie in the “most iconic and intense undercover missions” from the franchise into one game. All in all, six different movies will be included in the storyline. Activision isn’t letting on which films will play a role, however. But we do know that the finale of the game, so to speak, will mirror Skyfall, the new Bond film that’s set to release this November.

“To honor 50 years of the world’s top secret agent, 007 Legends offers a collection of his most famed moments in the smartest and most treacherous Bond game yet,” said David Oxford, Executive Vice President at Activision Publishing, Inc. “Creating a video game storyline that ties together six popular, yet very different, Bond movie narratives can be challenging, but together with EON Productions, our developer Eurocom, has pulled it off to create an homage that we think will be a unique and highly entertaining Bond video game.”

As far as the actual gameplay goes, we’re getting the Mi6 Ops Missions from GoldenEye 007: Reloaded back. It sounds like it will appeal to the broad base of fans of previous Bond games, with big fire-fights, stealth play, and gadget play. No surprise – the game will feature both local and online multiplayer. One new aspect of 007 Legends will be the ability to play as other characters in the mission mode (friends and enemies) so that you can “relive the missions through their eyes.”

The game will hit the shelves some time in the Fall on Xbox 360 and PS3.
